  • Hanging up on staff

  • Verbal aggression, insults or derogatory language

  • Harassing language or behaviors

  • Raising your voice to others, slamming doors or chairs

A single offence of the following nature will result in immediate termination from our practice:

  • Threats

  • Racism

  • Sexism

  • Homophobia/ Transphobia

  • Assault

  • Sexual harassment

  • Forgery

  • Theft

  • Property destruction

We appreciate your cooperation in keeping our office a space safe and respectful for everyone.

Safety and Respect

At Strathcona Pediatrics we pride ourselves in creating a professional, compassionate, child and adolescent-friendly environment for our staff members as well as our patients and families.

We will provide a space which is safe, comfortable and be respectful to you and in turn expect  that our physicians and staff will be treated respectfully. Communication or behaviour which threatens the wellbeing of our staff or patients will not be tolerated.

We are currently unable to accommodate in-person appointments if you, your child has ANY of the following:

  • fever >37.5 degrees celsius

  • new or worsening cough

  • difficulty breathing

Non-compliance with the above policy puts patients, families and healthcare workers at exceptional risk and may result in immediate dismissal of your child’s care from the clinic.

Please call the office to change your in-person appointment to Telehealth appointment in the same time slot.

No Shows/ Late Cancellations

The wait list for pediatric assessment is dependant on the nature of the referral. To ensure that all patients have opportunity to see a pediatrician in a timely manner, no shows and late appearances may be subject to fees and rescheduling.

No Shows/ Late Cancellations- We require 2 business days notice for cancellation or rescheduling. Failure to provide adequate notice will result in fees. Compassionate grounds are always considered by the pediatrician. Rebooking is contingent on the receipt of fees.

Late Appearances- At the discretion of the pediatrician, a patient presenting more than ⅓ the total appointment time duration late, will be registered as a ‘no show’ and rescheduled into the next available appointment. (ie. 30 min appointment, >10 mins late)

The named patient of the appointment must be present for every appointment. This is a standard set and enforced by the College of Physicians and Surgeons and not-negotiable. If there is a barrier to this, or you need private consultation with the pediatrician during the appointment, please notify the team when booking.

Privacy and Confidentiality

All patients and their families will be offered the same strict confidentiality of their personal and medical information. This is a standard set and enforced by the BC College of Physicians and Surgeons. For this reason, it is routine for your pediatrician or office staff to clarify information about custody and guardianship of your child. Similarly, information about appointment content cannot be released over the phone or in writing without explicit consent or a court-order.

Email communication cannot be protected with the use of third-party servers (gmail, hotmail, yahoo etc.). As such, we will not respond to medical questions or requests submitted to our gmail account. Submission of any information through email implies understanding of this policy.

Appointment Confirmations/ Reminders

Our booking software will email or text you at the time of appointment booking, and then again, send a message to the same device 48 hours before the appointment time.

This reminder holds an important link you must follow to ensure you are aware of the location of your appointment. All pediatricians see patients in 4 different locations, and locations can change without prior discussion or acknowledgement.

We do not have the ability to issue alternate reminders, telephone call reminders or reminders to multiple phone numbers or email addresses. Please note, (your) replies to the software-initiated text message/ email are NOT received.

If you have any questions about your appointment date, time, location or duration, please call and we are happy to assist you.

Prescription Policy

All prescription medication requires regular monitoring for effects, positive and negative. Prescriptions are provided only until your next scheduled appointment. We will not provide prescription renewals or refills by request of patients without scheduled appointments.

Requests for prescription renewals take 14 days to be completed and faxed to the pharmacy on file.

In the event of a missed or cancelled follow up, this may lead to having insufficient prescription supply. Prescription refills may be provided by your family physician or a walk in clinic. In many circumstances your pharmacist may be able to provide you with a short supply.
